Problems & disadvantages of the Z14XEP

  • The Ecotec Z14XEP’s 1.4 TwinPort engine is known to have a high oil consumption rate, with up to one liter of oil lost after every 1000 kilometers traveled.
  • Renovations are needed in order for the engine to go on an “oil diet” and can cost around $550.
  • The time chain has been reported as being maintenance free but can stretch before it has exceeded the distance of 150,000-160,000 kilometers if not regularly refilled with lubricant.
  • An undulation issue may be caused by a clogged EGR valve while good news for owners is that repairs tend to be inexpensive at auto shops and these units can cover distances of up 400,000 kilometers without major repairs
